A classic Art Nouveau two-part silver plated sash buckle, the interlocking halves designed to be worn at the waist with a ribbon or fabric belt, the robed torch-bearing allegorical goddess and sweeping calla lily fronds epitomizing the sinuous botanical naturalism of the period. This style of figural openwork buckle was produced across England, France, Germany, and America during the height of the Jugendstil movement, when the female form entwined with flowing organic motifs became the defining aesthetic of fashionable dress accessories.
