This rare piece of history is baby rattle & teether from the late 1800s, retailed by Tiffany & Co. & engraved the name "Lester." The top section is made of embossed sterling silver featuring a floral motif & two bells; the top also functions as a working whistle and has a loop to hang it, possibly as a necklace. The bottom section is made of smooth, hand carved mother of pearl shell. This antique piece weighs 33.5g and measures 106mm tall; it is in wonderful condition for its age, but it has definitely been well loved. The teether is marked sterling and has the Tiffany & Co makers mark with an "M" dating it to the late 1800s.
