This exceptional late 1800s watch chain, or guard necklace was made by Carter, Gough & Co. and features black enamel tube links with thicker black enamel barrel links, connected by 14k gold links; the necklace features a "Y" shaped drop that starts with a black enamel circle button & a long drop that ends with a dog clip clasp. Originally this necklace would have held a small pocket watch or locket & was most likely worn as mourning jewelry.
Measurements: 10.3g, main chain section 23", drop 3", dog clip 14.5mm long, oval barrel links 13x3.5mm
Condition: excellent antique condition with very light wear
Markings: faint 14k mark on spring ring clasp, 14k mark & maker's mark on inside of dog clip
